AGLC has amended the Retail Liquor Store Handbook to allow retail liquor store licensees to sell energy drinks in their stores.
The policy change is a result of Health Canada’s recent decision to remove the cautionary statement “Do not mix with alcohol” due to limited evidence to support that drinking energy drinks mixed with alcohol has a direct risk to health.
While the cautionary statement has been removed, AGLC reminds Albertans that the overconsumption of energy drinks combined with alcohol can lead to adverse health risks.
These policy amendments reflect AGLC’s ongoing commitment to ensure a regulatory environment that balances responsible consumption, consumer choice, innovation and economic growth.
