A significant change has been announced with the 2026 budget - the end of the Ad Valorem wine mark-up:

As part of Budget 2026, the Government of Alberta is removing the additional markup on high-value wine (“ad valorem markup”) that was introduced in April 2025 and replacing it with a 58-cent-per-litre increase to the standard flat markup rates on all wine. This is equivalent to 44 cents on a 750‑millilitre bottle above the previous standard markup rate. The adjustment will take effect on April 1, 2026, and will provide greater transparency for industry stakeholders and wine consumers.
