No changes to the Liquor Regulations

February 11, 2010

Dear ALSA Members,

Over the past few months, The Alberta Liquor Store Association, our members, and non-members have been working together to communicate to Premier Stelmach and our MLAs in direct opposition to proposed changes to the AGLC Regulations.

The proposed changes to the AGLC Regulations would allow large format retailers, over 10,000 square feet to share a common wall with their affiliated liquor store.

Today, the AGLC Board decided not to recommend to the Minister any changes to Schedule 2 of the Regulations. Large format retailers will not be allowed to share a common wall with their affiliated liquor store.

We congratulate you and thank you, all independent liquor stores owners and managers, for your commitment and efforts in discussing this important issue with your local government representatives. It was the united voice of the industry that helped this decision be made to support our position. Each individual who contacted their local MLA played an important part in this decision. Thank you!

There is strength in numbers and our unified voice has been heard!

Together, we uphold our vision "To ensure that the Alberta Model for private liquor store retailers is sustained."
